Detroit Red Wings star Pavel Datsyuk is out for at least three months with a hip injury

Pavel Detsyuk, the Detroit Red Wing, was hospitalized Wednesday and had surgery for a hip fracture, according to his agent.

Datsu is expected to miss about three months.

Datsyu had two assists and two goals in the Red Wings’ 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He is tied for the NHL lead with 12 goals in 31 games.

Detsu is coming off a back-to-back-to–scoring season that has propelled the Red Wing to a 19-4-4 record.

He had five goals in seven games in December, including a goal and three assists in a 4-1 win over Toronto.
